Modern Day Conveniences

Thankful Thursday finds my washer and dryer getting a workout each week. Here in our household Thursday is bedding day. These two appliances get quite the workout helping to make our sleeping spaces fresh for the week ahead.

Out the window I see the snow and ice and can’t help but ask myself the question “What would it have been like to live before the luxury of electricity and running water?” For those of you old enough to remember the show Little House on the Prairie, think about trying to live during those times. Hauling water from a stream or a hand pump (if your family was lucky enough to have one). Traveling places on foot. Gardening, hunting, and canning to prepare food for your family and any guests you may have.

Come to think of it, my great grandparents did live through this and got to witness and experience the change in life with the modern day conveniences and luxuries. What a vast difference between yesteryear and today. My heart swells with gratitude for the modern day blessings like washers and dryers helping me to provide a healthy space for my family. What convenience are you grateful for today?

Blessings!

Boring Behavior

Thankful Thursday hears the weather reports for the coming snow. In knowing the coming weather change, I get outside and lift my gratitude in prayer. Clear roads allow for an easier walk with Cooper, my dog. Tomorrow will present its own opportunity for an outdoor experience. Today in this here and now the gift of clear roads awaits. What journey will you and I make on them?

As I ponder the journey of the year ahead, I ask myself what experiences would I like? How can I have these experiences? One of the messages I’m hearing loud and clear for this year: Consistency in one boring (small or tiny) behavior. What is one boring behavior I can add to my routine each and every day? This daily discipline compiled together day after day and month after month directly impacts the experiences on my path and the direction it goes. Whether the roads ahead are clear or obstacle-filled, 1 Peter 1:13 encourages us to: Therefore prepare your minds for action;[a] discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed.

Boring behavior by boring behavior. Day in and day out. Continue along with Jesus in the glow of his grace.

Blessings!

Thankful Thursday 12-30-2021

Space

Thankful Thursday calls for calm. The weather outside is overcast. Our family’s schedules free up from busyness over this week between Christmas and the New Year. The combination of more free time and cover of clouds beckons us to relax. Pause and reflect on where we are right here and right now.

This time of reflection also opens the space and door for dreaming. Recognizing the gifts of our present situation shows us the tools we can use for continuing to build our lives. As you take time to rest, reflect, and recognize in your life, may these actions renew you.

Lord, thank you for the space to rest, reflect, and recognized the gifts from You in our lives. May use each of these to be renewed through You. Amen!

Blessings!

Fear Not

Thankful Thursday began with some excitement for me this morning. After returning home, I popped inside for a few minutes and much to my surprise, a visitor greeted me when I came back out to our garage. Just as surprised at my presence, I received a hissing greeting from a raccoon warning me to give it space! And space I gave it as I sprinted outside and around to our back door for my son to let me in. I tried to allow time for the raccoon to choose to leave on its own will, but some gentle protected urging in the direction of the outdoors was needed for our garage to be emptied of the raccoon’s presence and directed out to nature where it belongs.

There are times I am like the raccoon in a place not meant for me. I hole up in the safest place I can find-a dark corner. While there, I hiss and whimper in fear from the loneliness. Thankfully God hears me and loves me too much to leave me in that dark place. He lovingly urges me out into uncomfortable and scary places for me. He invites me to join Him leading me to where I am called to live.  Isaiah 41:10 reminds us “do not fear, do not be afraid.” God is with us and for us and will provide.

Lord, thank you for meeting me in my fearful places and lovingly calling me out of that fear and into the place meant for me. While the path is unknown to me, with You as my guide my journey shines Your glory. Forever your beloved child. Amen!

Blessings!

Thankful Thursday 12-16-2021

Why & Who versus When & Where

Thankful Thursday falls nine days away from the calendar date for Christmas. I phrase it that way because yes December 25 is the recognized day for Christmas and many celebrations happen on this date, but so many situations do not allow for the celebration to occur on THE day marked for celebration or at the desired site either. Families and friends (the WHO of celebrations) that face scenarios of celebrating on a non-traditional date or in a different place really get to pause and remember WHY the celebration is happening in the first place.

Some have already begun their Christmas celebrations and others soon will be gathering to celebrate. Remember our WHY for gathering: the birth of Jesus Christ. Our gate to salvation and eternal life in heaven with our Heavenly Father.

Before Jesus, there was no hope for change in the way the world operated. The gift of salvation, available to each of us, offers hope. Change for a different future. A new perspective on life. One filled with joy, peace, and love.

As professing Christians, we receive through our salvation the gifts of joy, peace, and love. As we gather with family and friends to celebrate these gifts, share them with those around you. And may you see their bounty multiplied.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your son. That I may have hope while in this world while focused on you. Grounded in the knowledge that I am a beloved child of yours. Free to share the love you so freely give to me. Amen.

Blessings!
