Do you feel powerless sometimes? Is there is a task that feels almost impossible for you to work through, even with the help of others? No matter what, you just can’t get it done.

I feel like that many times in life even as a grown-up. There are problems and worries that seem to overtake me and cause me to feel nervous. There are days when I might be overly tired or have many different thoughts running through my head, and I can’t seem to get anything done. My tasks remain incomplete! Boy, then I really feel even more nervous than I did to start!

I have learned (and yes, even old people keep learning things! 🙂) that if I take a moment and settle down and lift up my scattered thoughts to God, I feel better. I feel like I can call on the power that He has to help me get through my struggles. The Bible tells us that things may be impossible for us to handle on our own, but with God nothing is impossible!

A Moment To Praise For Kids 9.7.21 in Scripture

Bible Gateway passage: Matthew 19:26 – International Children’s Bible

Jesus looked at them and said, “For men this is impossible. But for God all things are possible.”

That makes me feel so good to know. I know that I don’t have to deal with life’s problems by myself. I know that I have somewhere to take them and to share them!

Give it a try sometime. When something is weighing heavy on you, allow God to take it off of your shoulders for a while. There is no greater power than that of God!

Binding Chains

Last Sunday, we sang several worship songs in our worship set about breaking chains. Our ladies’ Bible study group years ago also had done a Bible study about breaking chains that bind us.

If you actually take a few minutes to visualize the concept of chains as a metaphor for sin. Imagine the chains being wrapped around every part of your body, mind, and heart, that prevent you from moving or having freedom. Seeing sin in that manner might actually cause us to pause and look more closely at what we are allowing to control our lives.

Take a moment and visual yourself in this way and name the sin that has the strongest grip on you. If we can recognize our sin, then we can take control and combat it in our lives. Scripture tells us that we all sin. There has never nor will ever be another person besides Jesus who was sinless.

A Moment To Praise 9.6.21 in Scripture
Romans 3:23-24 NIV – Bible Gateway

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

We are only saved through the righteousness given to us by Christ. This is not through anything of our own power.  Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection from the grave is just a sampling of the amazing power that God can use to break us free from bondage and sin. This is the same God who created the world just by speaking it into existence, it is certain that He can step along side of us and lead us out of our sin and into salvation.

Freedom From Chains

How do we do this? How do we call on His mighty name to help us?

We just work at it every day through prayer and studying of His Holy Word. We rely on Him instead of relying on ourselves, and we do not follow the counsel of the world. For that matter, we do not follow counsel of people who are not trying to follow God faithfully in their lives. One of the most important things is to have a person or people who are waling in faith to talk to. It only makes sense. If you talk to someone who isn’t trying to follow God in their own life, they are not going to advise you to listen to the Lord in your own. They just won’t!

Find yourself a friend who loves the Lord. Someone who speaks joy and positivity. Pray about that person and then ask if they will help you to loose the sinful chains in your own life. Rely on prayer and scripture to help guide you.

Make it a plan to get yourself into a church that teaches the Bible. These are the ways that you begin looking more like Christ and less like the world. Christ has the power to give you the gifts of freedom, joy, and peace no matter what you’re experiencing. No matter what the sin! He can break all of your chains and lead you to a fulfilled and genuinely happy life.

Colossians 3:5 NIRV – Bible Gateway

So put to death anything that comes from sinful desires. Get rid of sexual sins and impure acts. Don’t let your feelings get out of control. Remove from your life all evil desires. Stop always wanting more and more. You might as well be worshiping statues of gods.

Making It New

Is it that time of year again – back to school day? How did summer go so fast? I sincerely hope you had a great break. Now it’s back to something new and exciting! Sometimes we need a spark, something to get us out of the same old routine and into something different to help us come alive again! A way to perk up and be excited! Maybe getting back to school is that spark for you. Maybe you love getting back to after school sports and activities. Or, maybe you’re that person who really loves homework and challenging yourself in school! Any way you look at it, the new school year is a chance to refresh, to come alive and be excited!

Did you know that God, even though He has been around forever and will continue eternally, is not old and stale? He constantly is making things brand new. He sends the seasons that change as a way to show us beauty. From disruption to peaceful, He causes hearts to be changed from anger to love. He forgives and forgets and asks us to do the same. He works in our personal lives and He is at work in the lives of all those around us. Those here, in our neighborhood, and around the world. He makes things new. In fact, we are meant to get that point apparently. The Bible tells us this same thing not once, but many times. Check it out!

Over the years, I have heard a lot of questions as a worship leader and Bible study teacher. Some of them include: “What’s so special about the Bible?” and “What’s so awesome about scripture?”

All I can say is that for the believer, the Bible is the undeniable word of God. It has supernatural power to transform hearts and minds. It is alive! Our lives have it as a guidebook and road map. There have been countless times in which I have read a scriptural passage and it has touched me and led me through whatever my situation was at that particular time. The next time I read that same passage, it can mean something altogether different to me.

The Word guides me in a different way than it did before. It seems to know what I need at that time and it speaks specifically to me and my needs of that day. It’s not the physical book doing that, but much more the Holy Spirit of the Lord moving around and within me that allows me to see the Word in a different light.

A Moment To Praise 8.30.21 in Scripture

God opens my eyes, heart and mind to the truth. and creates proof for me that this book should be my navigation for life and in every move that I make. Here is the scripture that confirms it!

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NET – Bible Gateway

16 Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work.

The last part of this scripture says it all for me, “…that the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work!”

I want to:

have my heart ready to serve.

have my mind keenly aware of God’s direction.

be capable and ready when He calls me to act! I need scripture.

I encourage you to plant scripture in your heart. How can you do that? You might doubt your ability to do this. You may think, “I haven’t gone to school to learn scripture! I’m not that well versed in the Bible!” Be reassured! You don’t have to be a theologian, a pastor, or a long-time Christian to implant his Word into your heart. You may already be doing it and not realize it.

Applying Scripture

When you say things like, “Be still…” you’re using this scripture:

Psalm 46:10  NIV – Bible Gateway

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

When you think, “My hope comes from the Lord…” you’re using this scripture:

Romans 15:13 NLV – Bible Gateway

Our hope comes from God. May He fill you with joy and peace because of your trust in Him. May your hope grow stronger by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I hope you see that you already have scripture planted in there, ready to be used in your life.

My hope for you is that you would remember that God’s Word is forever and will be with you always as long as you give it a home inside your heart.

Bible Gateway passage: Isaiah 40:8 – English Standard Version

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

Rain & The Perfect Umbrella

It sure has been raining a lot lately! Maybe it was because of the tropical storm that was moving through our area.  Because of all of the bad weather, it always seems to be dark and stormy outside. Sometimes, it feels like it’s been forever since we’ve seen the sunshine peeking through the clouds!

At times, it feels cloudy inside our hearts, too! It feels gray and dreary when we are having a fight with a friend, having trouble at school, or at home. It might seem like like there’s a dark cloud overhead and it’s pouring rain on you. That’s a sad feeling!

There are definitely times when things go wrong and we feel like the storms in our hearts will never clear up. But God has told us that no matter what happens in our lives, He will be there with us. I’m telling you to believe that you can count on God. He can be a perfect umbrella to protect you from the rain and storms of life. He tells us so in the Bible.

I am trying to stop a habit that I’ve done for a long time. I am trying to stop assuming. Assuming what people think, feel, or what they are saying about me.

Making assumptions can be dangerous. They are not based in truth, and most of the time, assuming is not a habit that edifies our spirit. In reality, making assumptions boils down to negative self talk. As people, we very rarely assume or feel positive thoughts about ourselves. Generally, our assumptions about the feelings and thoughts of others toward us are negative in nature. The bottom line? This type of thinking does not come from God.

Let’s turn our thought process on its head. For some perspective, this is how highly God thinks of us.

A Moment To Praise 8.23.21 in Scripture
Bible Gateway passage: 1 Chronicles 29:11-12 – New International Version

he[a] predestined us for adoption to sonship[b] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—

We have been called brothers and sisters in Christ. We don’t need to stress about what others think or feel about us, because we have been saved through Him. We’ve been adopted into His family of children!

Try to dispel any negative thoughts and assumptions as they are not beneficial or godly for your spirit. Instead, start assuming that you are perfect as you are because you are a brother or sister in Christ! Because God has made you just as He wants you to be. And He loves you! You are accepted. You can make that assumption any time and you’ll be right!

Remember that truth every day, and have a great week!

Silliness & Praise

I heard this song from a friend a couple of months ago. It was used in their church to teach kids that it’s fun to sing and worship God. Worshiping can even be a little silly! If you don’t know how that would be possible, you should listen to this song!

A Moment To Praise For Kids 8.17.21 in Song

Praise Ye The Lord Hallelujah (NEW VERSION)

It made me laugh when my friend shared it with me! Even so, I wanted to do some research to see how many words I could use instead of the word “praise”. Here’s what I found:

(Click the word praise to see even more words you can use.)

1 to proclaim the glory of

  • hymns that praise God

2 to declare enthusiastic approval of

  • the school volunteers were praised for their excellent work in the reading program
as in recognitionacclaim

There are so many words that can characterize praise!

I’m sure you’re like me and like the fact that God made us to shout out praise and worship Him always. We can even be silly in His presence. He loves when we enjoy His company. Here’s what the Bible says about praising God.

Sing out your hallelujahs and lift up your gorgeous voices to God on high! Always remember to add some silliness in, too!

Here’s a messy, silly idea for some fun:

If you have Silly String you’re in luck – you’ll need it and at least one other friend to make a team of two. If you don’t already know it, learn the song. Next, whenever someone sings the “Hallelujah” part, the other team sprays silly string at them. When you sing the “Praise ye the Lord” section, the other team sprays you. See who is in the biggest, silliest mess of Silly String at the end. They’re the winner! Send pictures of your Silly String messes.

Have a great day.

Some days, I can get overwhelmed easily. I may oversleep, or I may get a phone call that throws my day off. I may have way too much stuff on my mind that prevents me from focusing on my goals for that moment in time. All of these things make for a tough way to start or end my day.

I would suggest that we all work towards not being overwhelmed with anything of this world. There is one thing that should overwhelm us and lead us to shout out in praise: the majesty of God. Nothing else deserves our complete attention!

A Moment To Praise 8.16.21 in Scripture
Bible Gateway passage: 1 Chronicles 29:11-12 – New International Version

11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.
12 Wealth and honor come from you;
you are the ruler of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.

All things come from God, as the scripture states. Whether we acknowledge it or not, He has a firm control over it all. We should not allow the day-to-day things of this world to overwhelm our soul. Instead, we should allow God to have control and lean into His majesty and strength for our everyday concerns.

God created all of nature to worship Him. He also created us to worship Him, not to worry!

Let’s be overwhelmed and in awe of the Lord! Remember, if the stars were meant to worship, then so will I!!

“Be Good!”

That’s something said to us throughout our lives. Even though I’m a grown-up, I still have people telling me to be good!

What does “be good” mean, though? Does it mean not making mistakes, being perfect, or being sinless? We learn that in Jesus’ time, He talked to a rich, young man about this exact thing. Let me tell you the story!

A Moment To Praise For Kids 8.10.21 in Scripture

A rich man came to Jesus and fell at his feet asking, “Good teacher! How do I get eternal life?” Jesus told him to not steal, cheat, or be unkind to others. He told him to not want what others had and to not tell lies. The man answered that he had followed all the rules since he was a boy. After that, Jesus said, “Give everything away and follow me.” Sadly, the young man walked away, because his possessions were more important to him than Jesus was.

The first thing that the young man had said to him was, “Good teacher…” and this is where this scripture for today starts up.

Mark 10:18 ICB – Jesus answered, “Why do you call me – Bible Gateway

Mark 10:18 International Children’s Bible (ICB). 18 Jesus answered, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.

Jesus told him that no one is good except for God. Jesus was hoping that the young man would see that He, in fact, was God on the earth and therefore would start following him. But instead, the young man didn’t understand and walked away from Jesus.

We must remember that we are never going to be perfect, nor will we ever be completely good. Acknowledging that we know who is perfect and good, we should follow Him with our whole hearts. We must focus on giving up all of the things of this world for Him!

Tough Nut

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “That person is a tough nut to crack!” Perhaps someone has said that about you? It may have been said about me a few times in my life!

As far as actual nuts go, I’m sure at some point, you have tried opening nut shells with your bare hands. Walnuts are the toughest to crack, in my opinion! If you want to do that, you have to use a nutcracker!

Recently, I ate lunch at one of those steakhouses where you get peanuts to eat before your meal arrives. I enjoyed the satisfaction of breaking the nuts open and eating a tasty appetizer of the soft, salty nut, not to mention throwing the shells on the floor! As I talked and cracked the nuts, I noticed that some of the shells opened very easily, and some of them were quite difficult. Still others I had to set aside because them seemed fused together too tightly and did not break! I hate to say it, but sometimes these ‘tough nuts to crack’ mirror the phases of my heart.

The Nut of Our Heart

Sometimes, I run to God or a trusted sister in Christ to share and ask for assistance very open with my problems. Other times, it is almost impossible for me to open up and share my troubles with anyone, including God. I mean, I’m not supposed to burden others with my problems, right? And I certainly shouldn’t bother God with my incessant whining!

Though sometimes it may feel challenging, we should always go to God! He wants our vulnerability with Him and to share the innermost details of what’s inside our hearts. He already knows how we feel. Take Jesus for example! When close to His crucifixion, He went to the garden of Gethsemane to pray. Jesus came to his Father completely open and transparent. Here’s what he said:

A Moment To Praise 8.9.21 in Scripture
Bible Gateway passage: Matthew 26:39 – New International Version

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Jesus, knowing exactly what He was going to do for all of humanity, still opened up to God and pleaded with Him asking if the cup could be taken from Him. Jesus asked if He really had to die on the cross to save mankind. He was vulnerable and honest and shared all of his feelings with God.

It’s hard to let others see your pain, your sadness, or distress. However, there is one place where you don’t have to pretend that everything is okay: within your relationship with God. Lean on Him. Give Him all of your struggles. Allow Him to give you all of the peace that you need for that moment, and keep moving forward! Let His will be done in your life!
