Super Strong

Joyce Lochinger

Miss Joyce

Hi kids,

The other day, I was flipping through YouTube as I do sometimes when I’m bored. As I was scrolling, I came across the “Strongest Man In The World Competition”. It looked so crazy that I had to watch to see what was going on! The men who were competing against each other were showing how much weight they could lift by carrying, rolling, or raising different items that weighed even more than I can imagine!

I was totally mesmerized as I watched them lift heavy weights, and then pick up weighty medicine balls and lift them onto a platform. I believe they had to do ten repetitions of those in a short period of time. One of the things they did was roll what looked like a huge tree that had been cut down with the leaves removed. Even though all of these crazy things happened, none of them prepared me to see the competition’s final test of strength and power.

Guess what the competitors had to do? They had to carry, YES, CARRY a Volkswagen Beetle car across the stage! I’m sure you all know what that car looks like. It looks just like its namesake, a beetle, but it’s much heavier than a real life beetle!  Here’s a picture so you know what the car looks like. These cars weigh 3,239 pounds! These men were carrying this kind of car across the stage! I couldn’t believe it. What an amazing show of strength!

A Moment To Praise For Kids 9.29.20 in Scripture

Later on, as I read God’s Word, I realized that God is much stronger than those guys! And so much more worthy of our praise! Take a glance at this passage.

Psalm 65:6

Bible Gateway passage: Psalm 65:6 – New International Version

who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself with strength,

www.biblegateway.com

God is strong enough to create and move mountains. All through the Bible, God showed incredible acts of strength. To name a few: parting the Red Sea, creating man and woman, causing a flood to come over the land and destroy it all, and speaking from a burning bush. There are so many more. Finally, we cannot forget God’s most incredible act, raising Jesus, His son, from the dead!

God wants you to know that He is strong enough to deal with the things in life that weigh you down. He can take care of these things easily! Do you know why? God is more powerful than the most powerful man in the world. Think about it! He created that guy!

Breaking Free

A few years ago, the ladies Bible study group was studying Beth Moore’s book called Breaking Free…Making Liberty in Christ A Reality In Life. It was a great study which lead to wonderful discussions about circumstances in this life that bind us. The things that cause us to feel imprisoned by our sins and past indiscretions.

The book cover had an illustration to further drive the point home.  It was an image of chains, similar to those that would have physically imprisoned Paul and Silas.

A Moment To Praise 9.28.20 in Scripture

Acts 16:25-27

This scripture and the memory of this Bible study always remind me of the immense power of God. He has the strength to break the physical chains of imprisonment, as in the case of Paul and Silas. Not only that, He also has the ability to break the chains of sin that hold us captive as well.

Sin can have an overwhelming and very tight grip on our lives. It can cause us to deviate from the path that God has laid out for us. It can ruin relationships, leaving us empty and lonely inside. Wouldn’t it be great if we could acknowledge these disrupting forces and habits in our lives, repent of them, and allow the freedom that only God can give to wash over us? Just like the effects of the mighty earthquake in scripture, sin would be loosed from our flesh and we would be free! Enjoy this song about God, the ultimate chain breaker!

Thankful Thursday 9-24-2020

Thankful Thursday burst forth with a gorgeous awakening of rich orange and vibrant pink lighting up the sky. The cooler temperatures this morning have put a spring in my step from my jaunt outside to send the boys off to school. These little reminders from God draw my gratitude for the life I been given.

Upon my return inside, I joyful greet the moments of silence. In these moments, I fill my bucket by spending time with God in His Word. Through the various devotions and scriptures I read, messages of inspiration, encouragement, and direction meet me. I receive them with eyes, heart, and mind open to the nudging, guiding, and edifying.

One of the scriptures I read today struck me:

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” -Hebrews 10:35-36

This scripture reinforces a message of encouragement I read yesterday: “Confidence looks good on you!” As I ponder individuals I remember noticing that exude confidence with a God-centered heart, I remember each of them with a glow to their being. They possessed a knowing of why they were taking action.

Purpose surrounds us. God does too. Purpose can change. Thankfully, God never does. We have confidence in our Lord and Savior. As we look to Him, He guides us and directs us for His purposes and His glory. As we make that connection and confidently take action, we too will glow.

Blessings!

Best Friend

Joyce Lochinger

Miss Joyce

Hi kids,

So, how has school been going for all of you? I have heard that there have been some new ideas to adjust to. I also heard from some friends that it can be lonely, and that you’re not able to be on the playground laughing and playing together. In the classroom, you have to be distanced from each other, and in some schools, you can’t eat with friends or sit with them on the bus.

I’m sorry for you all! That is not a fun way to go back to school. I will keep praying that things start getting better and back to normal as quickly as they possibly can!

Even though that’s true, I think that the way things are right now creates a great opportunity, too! There’s a chance for you to learn to rely even more on Jesus that you have in the past. Our Savior promises that He will never leave you and that He will be there for you when times are difficult. When you feel alone and lonely, He will be able to help you.

A Moment To Praise For Kids 9.22.20 in Scripture

Jesus is our best friend. He never will leave us and there’s nothing in this world that can take Him away from us! Read this scripture:

Bible Gateway passage: John 15:14 – New English Translation

You are my friends if you do what I command you.

www.biblegateway.com

Jesus will always be there for you from the age you are now, until you’re a very old person. He never will change. Do His will in your life and always praise and honor Him in everything you do. If you do that, you will never be alone or lonely. Whether you’re at school, at home, in church – He will be with you wherever you may be!

Jesus is your best friend and He’s mine too!

You and Me

I’m going to take you on a trip back in time with this week’s devotion and matching video.

Imagine this. It’s 1997 and I am a busy stay-at-home mom running errands with my then 2-year-old daughter, Shay. I had just dropped off my eldest, Jenna, at school and I was playing the newest WOW 1997 – Top Christian Songs CD in my car’s CD player. I know that last sentence might not make sense to some younger people, but yes, we played CDs in our cars! 🙂

A Moment To Praise 9.21.20 in Song

Anyway, this song came on by DC Talk called, “Just Between You And Me”. It was a song about forgiveness and healing. You can take a listen here: https://youtu.be/6kXJdshVNq0

At this time in my life, I was trying to deal with a hurt that I just couldn’t get over. The bitterness and anger that I felt constantly plagued me. Then, I heard this song. The lyrics absolutely drove me to tears. I nearly had to stop the car so I didn’t get into an accident.

This was the verse that grabbed me:

In my pursuit of God, I thirst for holiness

As I approach the Son, I must consider this

Offenses unresolved, they’ll keep me from the throne

Before I go to Him, my wrong must be atoned

The ‘Secret’

That’s when it hit me. The ‘secret’ to getting rid of all of my negative feelings was nestled right into this verse of that song. This song had been written by someone who didn’t know me at all, but that person was faithful to God. God knew what I needed to hear and the best way to speak it to me – through that song! Here’s what I heard clearly that day:

I needed to ask for forgiveness as well as give forgiveness to others!

In life, if we hold onto past hurts and bitter feelings, the only person that feels bad in the end is us! We torture ourselves with thoughts and emotional reactions that, in reality, may not be true. Most times in my life when I have perceived that someone has been out to get me or out to hurt my feelings, I was not correct! Holding on to our own perceptions only causes us pain. The last two lines of the song cement to me what God expects from us.

Read them again:

Offenses unresolved, they’ll keep me from the throne

Before I go to Him, my wrong must be atoned

A Moment To Praise 9.21.20 in Scripture

I do not want my silly pride and inability to let go of something to keep me from His throne. Nothing is worth keeping me from my eternal life with God! Scripture tells us this:

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%201:18&version=NIV

Isaiah 1:18 NIV – “Come now, let us settle the – Bible Gateway

18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

www.biblegateway.com

God is saying that we we all need to settle the matter before it eats us up inside, so we can start living again and be forgiven!

The person that I had experienced conflict with? They are still in my life. I learned how to accept them for who they are and to not take their words to heart. Letting things go, I do not stir up bitterness or discontent in my heart. I have forgiven.

Just between you and me, (see what I did there?😁) I’m not always good at this. I have times of insecurity and a very overactive mind, but with the help of God I continue to try. I absolutely have to, my eternal life is at stake!

Have a great week, and be happy!

Thankful Thursday 9-17-2020

Thankful Thursday greets my ears with the rhythms of nature. The humming white noise buzz of the insects provides the steady backdrop for the chirping crickets and calling birds. As I sit soaking up the many nature noises, I am awe of the variety and complexity of wildlife.

From the little cricket with big noise beside me to the winged grasshopper flying by to safety, the little guys of creation have big impact on this world. Each consistently does what it is created for. When we close our eyes, take a deep breath, and allow the blanket of nature’s symphony to cover us, our minds, bodies, and spirits slow down.

When we slow down, fall in line with the rhythm of nature, we allow restoration of our souls. Our thoughts calm. Muscles relax. And hearts beat more freely. Their only tasks: being open to be loved and to love. I’m grateful for nature and the calming force it bring to my soul to remember: I am loved and am built to love. John 3:16. Sending prayers for you to be loved and to love others today.

Blessings!

Loving

Joyce Lochinger

Miss Joyce

Hi kids,

Do you ever play that game “he/she loves me, he/she loves me not” while you pull the petals off of a daisy? Or is that old school, old timer stuff? Regardless, it was always a fun way to think of someone you liked and then play the game until the last petal fell and you found out if the person loved you back or not. The game was simple, non-electronic, and definitely old school, but it was a game we always played when I was young. When I remember playing it, I think about how unsure I always was of what the outcome would be. Does he love me or does he not?! And of course, I thought that it was a foolproof way to figure out if I had a secret admirer. Was there someone special who loved me?

A Moment To Praise For Kids 9.15.20 in Scripture

I wonder if God ever wonders the same question about me. “Does she love me or does she love me not?” Sometimes, my actions don’t show that I love Him with all my heart. Here is what scripture tells us about loving God:

Matthew 22:37

We are not only supposed to love our God with our whole heart, but also with our whole soul and our whole mind. That’s quite a task! God is asking for you to give over your heart, where your emotions reside.  He’s asking you to give over your soul, where your conscience lives and where you know right from wrong. Last of all, He’s asking for you to give over your mind. That’s where a whole lot of things happen: thoughts, feelings, anger, and joy. The bottom line is that God wants you to just love Him all the time with all of your being and that way, you’ll never go wrong! The great part is He promises to always love you back, no matter what!

A Moment To Praise For Kids 9.15.20 in Song

Here’s a great song, Love the Lord, to remind you of how to love God! The best part? It’s the scripture we just shared together, too!

Praising God

I have to tell you…it was SO good to be back in worship together at the church. I know that the surroundings had changed a bit from the last time we were together, and we had to adhere to some guidelines that we may not like having in place, but should be used to by now. The one thing I did notice was this: if we allowed ourselves to remember that we were entering into God’s Holy House, and if we had prepared our hearts to meet the Holy Spirit there, none of those outside worldly issues mattered! And I felt that they didn’t. On Sunday, you could feel the genuine atmosphere of joy and excitement of being able to worship together again! Hallelujah!

The thing that I have most missed most during our time away from the church was being able to sing praises together as a group to God in His house. There is such a feeling of unity and closeness when we worship with each other that cannot be found anywhere else. The scripture today talks about that exact feeling:

A Moment To Praise 9.14.20 in Scripture

Psalm 34:1-4

Let us praise the Lord together and exalt His name! Amen to that! Think about how much better the world would be if we saw acts of mercy and praise plastered on our television daily. How much more hopeful and joyous would our souls would feel? Think of how God would delight in us if we, His people, publicly praised Him in all situations. In times of joy and in times of persecution, He has told us to lift up our lives to Him! In return, He has promised to be our Savior, Healer, and our Deliverer in all things!

I don’t know about you, but I need to remember that! I get caught up in the world around us, as I’m sure some of you do too. We start to think that we are the only ones who don’t agree with the anger circulating in this world today. Then I read this passage and see that God expects us to be more focused on Him and what He did for us than the world and the things of this life.

Remember His Word

We must remember that Jesus told us that in this world, there will be trouble, but He has overcome this world. That is something for us to think about! If everyone would remember that and then make the choice to worship God and elevate Him and His ways, not elevate this world and its ways, things would look a whole lot different around here!

Let’s be the ones who start a new world trend.  Let us show the world God’s love through praise to Him in all times and in all situations. Let’s not let the world dictate how we feel, but instead let the truth of God’s love and grace guide our thoughts and actions.  Wouldn’t it be great to see Christians who flow out into the streets and spread God’s joy on the evening news? We can show people that there is a different way to live!

A Moment To Praise 9.14.20 in Song
