“Power” Nap

Thankful Thursday found me scrolling through Instagram and landing on a reel by Heather Thompson Day where she posed this question: “Is it a spiritual attack or did you just need a nap???” It stopped me in my tracks because here in the spring filled with messages of energy, growth, and moving forward, I needed this reminder to pause. Allow my body and energy stores the gift of renewal through rest.

Elijah experienced the power and renewing force of taking a nap. In 1 Kings 19, Elijah is running for his life from Jezebel. And in the wilderness, he sits alone under a tree and tells God it is enough and asks God to take away his life. Elijah proceeds to lay down and sleep. When he awakes, God provides food and water through an angel then repeats those steps again. These steps prepared Elijah for the next leg of his journey, not the end.

I listened to that message, laying down and taking the nap. Upon awaking, my head and body felt better, but also sensing I’ll need to repeat the nap process again (and fuel up with appropriate water and food.) A nap truly is powerful for restoration and renewal. So be like Elijah and take a power nap to be ready for the next adventure awaiting you!
