Command of Love

Thankful Thursday caused me to learn something new yet again today. Today is Maundy Thursday, the eve of Good Friday. The term maundy comes from the Latin word, mandatum, “command.”

On the night before the day that we now term Good Friday, Jesus ate supper with his disciples, washed their feet, and shared this command, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34). His command calls through the years to me and you today. A call to love one another, as Christ has loved us.

The night of Maundy Thursday, Jesus took on the servant’s role. He washed their feet and called them to do the same. He then moved on to do what no human could do. Out of love, He took on the punishment of our sins by dying on the cross. On Sunday morning, Jesus rose to life from the grave overcoming death itself and carving a way for us to have a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord!

You are invited to learn and see more about this love in our Maundy Thursday Service tonight at 7 pm, or celebrate with us Sunday morning at Sunrise Worship at 6:30 am in Gravel Hill Cemetery or 8, 9:15, or 10:30 am services in Gravel Hill Sanctuary.

Blessings!
