Cheering Each Other On

Thankful Thursday finds basketball fans glued to their viewing devices today. For those not into the world of basketball, today marks the first round of elimination games being played to become the NCAA champion. On Monday, April 8th, that champion will be crowned.

Between now and then, fans will continue tuning into the games. Coaches and players will bring their best to each contest presenting some teams Cinderella moments with upsetting wins and heartbreaking losses for others. The hope and support pour from the featured participants, the family members, and the fans as they cheer on “their” team.

As Christians, we have a support team cheering us on too. In Hebrews 13:1, Paul reminds us: Let mutual affection continue. He continues through the chapter with action directives for us and wraps his writings with this Benediction:

20 Now may the God of peace, who brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 make you complete in everything good[d] so that you may do his will, as he works among us[e] that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever.[f] Amen.

As the basketball fans are glued to the hardwood, may we be glued to our faith journeys and the journey of those in our lives so that we spur each other on to complete God’s will to which He has called us through Jesus Christ.
