The Gift of Receiving
Thankful Thursday sees tonight as the last regular season practice for the youngest in our family, who is currently a senior in high school. One of the ways the seniors are honored is through the underclassmen carrying their seniors off the field. Another honoring moment is through an activity the seniors do with their moms or a special coach.
Tonight’s activity is a surprise for both the seniors and the moms (and for me too!) Weird feelings surround the fun coming tonight. For years, I have had the joy and honor of helping to celebrate and honor families as they reach this milestone moment with their seniors. Now tonight and tomorrow before the game, I step back to allow others to share in the joy and honor of celebrating the senior group and receive the blessing and love with which it all has been orgnized.
Changing roles challenges us. But if we look for it, we find the gift in the new open door and the love and care that supports us as we step through the milestone doorways into something new. May you pause to receive the gifts being shared with you in love and care, surrounding you, and blessing you (especially those over which you have no control!)
