Thankful Thursday 5-4-2023

Presence

Thankful Thursday thoughts slip to a recent reading. I don’t remember exactly where I came across this piece, but the story was shared by a high school English teacher that had two students in class working on their math homework. The teacher went over to the two students and simply shared: Be where your feet are.

The intended impact of these five simple words: have the students be fully present for English and when in math, be fully present for math. When thinking about life, how often do our devices draw our attention away from the living being near us? Far to often, I find myself sucked into the “entertainment” shared on the screen in front of me and less engaged with the loved ones living under the same roof as me.

I share this tug on my heart knowing I am not alone in this struggle. And I’m going to challenge myself (& you are welcome to do the same) to turn off the TV, put my phone on itself charger and walk away (even outside!), and choose to be with a loved one. This includes time with Jesus because when with him, joy is felt (Psalm 16:11).Whether through playing a game, having a conversation, observing nature, or cooking a favorite food together, I want to be where my feet are (& you can too!) building a stronger relationship.

Blessings!
