Journeying

Thankful Thursday thoughts drift to the experience of learning to ride a bike. For some that memory may have many years between then and now. For others it may have been a bit more recent that they pumped their legs, had their arms guide the handlebars, and adjusted their center of gravity to get on and keep their bike upright.

Regardless of when you learned to bike, one universal learned truth to be successful at bike riding is having your eyes up on the path before you. As you were beginning to learn where to place your feet, your eyes probably wandered to the pedals to make sure positioning was good. But when your eyes went to your feet, they left the direction you were headed. This change of focus usually leads to a crash or fall for the beginner. If you are fortunate you may have someone guiding or coaching you and possibly holding the seat of the bike to help provide stability as you learn the needed motions to make this biking thing work!

It’s funny how learning to bike is a lot like learning to grow our faith life. Pastors, coaches, and Christian confidants help provide stability as we first enter into (& continue) living a life with a relationship with Jesus, but the key piece is not one of those persons can live your life or build your relationship for you. As you begin to get your feet in the places where God leads you, keeping a daily connection with Him will guide the steps your feet continue to take. There may be times when that daily doesn’t happen and your eyes lose their focus on Jesus. Life begins to feel a little off, get a little wobbly, or even crashes when this occurs. But not to worry, we can lift our eyes to Jesus, reconnect with Him, and get ourselves positioned with His call on our life again.

A great journey awaits us on the landscape of life. When we keep our eyes on God, we will go places we never even imagined. As we journey along, seize the chance to share all of these amazing pieces with others in our lives.

Blessings!
