Thankful Thursday 12-1-2022
Greetings
Thankful Thursday greets the month of December as the dawn breaks the horizon. Today the morning began with a brisk wind, cool temperatures, and a gorgeous pink and purple cloud kissed sky that changed each moment you watched it. The beauty and possibilities of the day brought a smile to my face.
During this season of advent and anticipation of Christmas, our routines shift a bit and we get to see people we may not have seen in a while. What kind of a greeting will you receive? More importantly, what kind of a greeting will you choose to share with them?
While this time of year is bittersweet for so many, joy is carried with the sadness. Our greeting to each other holds a gift. That gift is recognition. Seeing each other. Honoring one another’s presence. Knowing God is in the person before you whether they themselves recognize it or not.
Each of our relationships with God is at varying points. Sometimes we are buried in so much pain and hurt, we need our brothers and sisters in Christ to help us see God in our lives, speak into that relationship, and support us as we reestablish our spiritual relationship. Greeting each other with eye contact, smiling, waving, maybe even hugging all lend to giving a gift in recognition of the human before you.
That greeting may be the gift God is using through you to help ease the hurt and pain another is holding. It may be the gift of a bit of joy God is looking for you to experience just like Mary did when she received this greeting (Luke 1:28). This Christmas season I challenge you to walk with eyes up for contact, a smile ready to share, and an openness to receive a greeting God may have waiting especially for you.
Blessings!
