A Mentor
Thankful Thursday ruminates on the gift of mentoring. When we are young, mentoring often comes through the form of a teacher, advisor, or coach working with us. As we enter the work force, the terms often heard may be apprentice or internship. In each of these situations, an individual with more experience uses their time and abilities to share and instruct on the topic of focus.
The recipient of this shared wisdom aka the student or mentee benefits from this relationship the most when entering the time together with a curious and coachable attitude. Proverbs 12:15 NIV supports this approach by saying “The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.” The willingness of mentors to share melding with one’s desire to learn creates a dynamic energy that can bless each individual involved. A learner who recognizes their limits and values the input and direction from a more experienced individual demonstrates humility. Growth occurs from that humble, submissive position where lessons learned become applied, practiced, and mastered.
Not one person gets through life without the impact of some form of a mentor in their life. I’m so thankful for my life’s journey to have had and continue to have so many mentors and positively impacting guides. How about you? Can you think of 3 people you hold dear to you as a mentor? Maybe pick one and send them a quick word of thanks today.
Blessings!
