It Takes A Village
“It takes a village to raise a child” – an African Proverb
Lately I’ve had several conversations with various individuals at different stages in life. Funnily, in each situation the phrase “it takes a village” popped up. No matter your stage of life the village surrounding your day in and day out of life does matter.
The value and importance of that village impacts so many areas of life. As a parent, at times you become the unwise gnat in the ear of your kids. You can share thoughts or advice with your children and then they will hear the exact same words come from the mouth of another adult they respect and follow through on shared advice. Gratitude to the adults in our kids lives helping them to live well (especially when they are choosing to stonewall words from their parents.)
So if I flip myself to the position of child, I ask the question, “When do I stonewall words from my Heavenly Father?” The answer: Far more often than I am proud to say. In His loving kindness, I know the gift of a good village surrounds me. Surrounding myself and engaging with my village corrects my stubbornness and encourages me to seek Jesus and His direction for my life.
Team Tuesday 1.4.22 Scripture
Hebrews 10:24-25 NRSV Bible Gateway
“24 And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Take a look at your village. When you fall into your human stubbornness, does your village surround you well and redirect you back to Jesus? Do you need a bigger village to help with this? The doors and hearts of Gravel Hill are open. You are welcome to be a part of our village focusing our eyes on Jesus.
Blessings!
Katie
