A Moment To Praise 7.5.21

The Recipe
I have spent many days beside my mother, watching her pore over her well-worn recipe books concocting yummy deserts, warm delicious breads, scrumptious healthy meals and so many fun snacks! Recently, I came across the old recipe book that she had given me as a child.
I leafed through the pages that I hadn’t looked at in probably thirty or more years. One thing I noticed in that recipe book, just like as in my mom’s old recipe books, were the well-worn pages and stains of bygone tablespoons of vanilla or teaspoons of melted butter. Many great memories and lessons came back to me as I turned those pages.
Well Worn
My mother also has another book that is very well worn. Its pages marked by bookmarks, gently ruffled edges, underlined places and tear-stained passages. It’s her Bible. Throughout my life, I have known my mother to read her Bible every day without fail. She would always cross-reference other devotions and scriptures with her Bible. She also taught us, her children, many life lessons that could always be backed up in the pages of that well-worn Bible.
Despite all of this, my mother would be the first to tell you that she has never been perfect and I’m sure that she has probably experienced many disappointments in others, and in herself too. It just goes to show that we are all, no matter our age, in need of guidance on our journey. Once we realize how important our heavenward trek is, we realize how much we need that well-worn map to help us navigate our way – that trusty Bible.
If it’s been a while since you have physically held a Bible in your hands, grab one today and look through it. Let the Lord lead you to passages that touch your heart. Search for those marked, worn pages and investigate what may have caused the weathering in those areas.
A Moment To Praise 7.5.21 in Scripture
Keep that good book close by. It is the recipe for a perfect life, and for an eternal on one as well!
Bible Gateway passage: Psalm 119:105 – International Standard Version
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my pathway. |
