Praise the Lord

Praise God in His sanctuary.

Praise Him in His mighty heavens.

Praise Him for His powerful acts;

praise Him for His abundant greatness.

Praise Him with trumpet blast;

praise Him with harp and lyre.

Praise Him with tambourine and dance;

praise Him with flute and strings.

Praise Him with resounding cymbals;

praise Him with clashing cymbals.

Let everything that breathes praise the Lord.

I always thought that the word “Hallelujah” was a funny word to say and spell! So, I did a little research (@ learn religions.com)  into the word and here’s what I found.

Where does it say hallelujah in the Bible?

Hallelujah is found 24 times in the Old Testament, but only in the book of Psalms. It appears in 15 different Psalms, between 104-150, and in almost every case at the opening and/or closing of the Psalm. These passages are called the “Hallelujah Psalms.”

I thought that was so interesting.

Then I did a little more research and found this:

What is hallelujah in the Bible? Interpretation. In the Hebrew Bible hallelujah is actually a two-word phrase, not one word. … However, “hallelujah” means more than simply “praise Jah” or “praise Yah”, as the word hallel in Hebrew means a joyous praise in song, to boast in God. The second part, Yah, is a shortened form of YHWH, the name for the Creator.

So bottom line is that when we say Hallelujah we are actually expressing a joyous praise or song to boast and tell others all about God. Since this word only appears in the Psalms, that means David used it a lot. I really think David is so much like us. He makes so many mistakes and has so many trials (most of his own doing). Yet, he still finds time to not only worship God but sing hallelujah to Him. Praise Him on a whole different level of gratitude.

I hope that you can sing hallelujah and worship God today and in all days no matter what the circumstances are. Practice by daily lifting up a great big song of praise and join with the Psalms of old in worship!
