“This is living, baby!”Â

Miss JoyceÂ
I know a man who is very dear to my heart who would wake up every morning and say, “This is living baby!”. He would wait for my reaction, which was usually a grumble or an “ugh!” because who wants to hear that first thing in the morning. But it wasn’t always said first thing in the morning.
He would also say this same line any time we were doing anything! Eating a great meal, he would say: “This is living, baby!” If we were having a fun time at an amusement park, he would inevitably say the same exact thing! If we were standing in a long line at the grocery, out the phrase would pop! “This is living, baby!”
When I was younger, I was like wow this guy can’t possibly be this joyous in all circumstances, and yet as the years have gone by, I came to realize that for the most part, he was. He refused to let the ho hum of everyday life get him down. As I look at this man with older eyes, I see someone who has lived most of the 80+ years of his life with this philosophy, I realize he’s had it right all along!
The Backstory
Let me give you some back story, his life wasn’t easy as a child. He was abandoned by his mother at a young age. Yup, left on the doorstep of a local farmer’s family. That family took him in because they needed extra hands on their farm and so he lived with them until after high school. He only knew his first and last name which was left with him on that doorstep, so he gave himself a middle name when he needed to sign any official document. He paid his on way through college with numerous jobs and excelled because he was happy to be living. And in the end put himself through college all the way through to a doctorate in education. Remember his motto! He was happy to have each day that was given to him.
I saved one thing for last to share – he deeply believed in God. He still does! And he still believes that each day, although it has more downs than ups for him at his age, is worth living.
A Moment To Praise For Kids 6.1.21 in Scripture
I know that his true strength and joy come from God and the spirit He planted in his heart from the beginning. I do believe he follows this scripture and that maybe it would be a good thing for us to as well.
