Storms

Wow – there have been quite a few storms blowing through town lately! I love to sit on my porch and listen, watching God’s very own fireworks display! Even if you go to watch the Fourth of July fireworks this weekend – I believe that God’s show is more spectacular! Watching storms is something that I have done throughout my life. I remember being a kid and sitting with my entire family on our patio. Together, we’d watch the lightning, count the thunder claps, and watch the rain fall on a warm, muggy summer night! Those are great memories that I love to think about. I hope that you appreciate watching God’s power at work in nature!

A Moment To Praise For Kids 6.29.21 in Scripture

There is a particular storm from a Bible story that I bet you remember! Take a minute and read about it here:

Bible Gateway passage: Mark 4:35-41 – International Children’s Bible

Jesus Stops a Storm – That evening, Jesus said to his followers, “Come with me across the lake.” He and the followers left the people there. They went in the boat that Jesus was already sitting in. There were also other boats with them. A very strong wind came up on the lake. The waves began coming over the sides and into the boat. It was almost full of water. Jesus was at the back of the boat, sleeping with his head on a pillow. The followers went to him and woke him. They said, “Teacher, do you care about us? We will drown!” Jesus stood up and commanded the wind and the waves to stop. He said, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind stopped, and the lake became calm.

www.biblegateway.com

Jesus’ disciples were scared because they were far out in the water and thought that Jesus didn’t know or care about how they felt. They thought that they were in the fight of their lives and their chances of surviving were not very good. While they were panicking, what was Jesus doing? He was sleeping!

The story ends with Jesus waking up and calming the storm. He also calmed the disciples’ fears too!

Storms in Our Lives

There are times in our own lives that things aren’t going the way we want them to go. All of our plans get shifted and changed just like the waters of a stormy sea. No matter what goes on, I want you to always remember that Jesus is just a quick prayer away from you. He has already made a promise to you that He would help you through any kind of trial or storm. Remember to call on His name and trust that He will be there for you. I know that He will never fail you!

Freedom

I hope that you have a great Fourth of July holiday this weekend! Maybe you will get to participate in some picnics and have fun with family and friends. Being freed from the restriction of the COVID mandates definitely feels wonderful! All things considered, it will be a great weekend to celebrate our independence and get back to some sort of normalcy in our lives.

A lingering question remains – have you been able to trust God throughout each of these last fifteen months of uncertainty? It has certainly been a test of faith. Some days, I wasn’t sure what to think or expect for my future. Maybe you felt the same way?

A Moment To Praise 6.28.21 in Scripture

This scripture brings me right back to my knees when I read it. It makes me really stop and think about my feelings throughout 2020 and during these past six months of 2021.

Psalm 9:10 NIV – Bible Gateway

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.

www.biblegateway.com

There are definitely times when our faith is weak and we are not seeking God for our everyday sustenance. Why? I chalk it up to being so very human! This scripture really makes me investigate my actions – asking myself if I am truly seeking him in all situations, or if I’m just running scared. I would like to say that I am always trusting and never questioning – but you all know that would not be true for me, or for any of us!

Fortunately, God is forgiving of our shortcomings. Thank goodness, because I have many! He still allows us to partake in the beauty of a life that is full of the opportunity to exist in His freedom!

Take this week of the Fourth of July holiday and investigate the freedom you have in Christ. Acknowledge that He will always do what he says He will do. Grasp onto the fact that you can trust Him, because He will never let you down! He can do anything – yes, He can!

Stories

Thankful Thursday highlights the importance of shared stories. As I have read through my devotions, taken in some time on social media, and read through a magazine today, the stories I’ve consumed have informed and inspired me as I began my day. Listening to each of these stories provides me with nuggets of comradery, empathy, and resolve.

The stories bolster my action toward challenges before me. And they will continue to encourage me as I do the work needed. For this, I am so grateful.

Listening to each of the stories is an honor and a key to growing into who I’m called to be. As I continue that grow, I build my story. When nudged by the Spirit, I will share my story. As the stories from others have helped me, I know God can use my story to help others when the time is right. And He can use yours too. Are you ready to share?

Blessings to you!

The Gift

Do you like to give gifts to people? Do you like to give of yourself to help people in need?

I have been on walks in my neighborhood and have seen some of you helping neighbors mow their lawns or helping them with their yard work. I have seen some of you running lemonade stands and giving the money to help others in need.  And in this church, I have seen you give of yourselves to help others during worship and Sunday school. I think you are all very generous people!

There is another person that wants you to give all of yourself to Him.  That’s God! He wants you to give to Him all of your thoughts, your dreams, your fears – your entire life!

A Moment To Praise For Kids 6.22.21 in Scripture

Bible Gateway passage: James 4:7 – International Children’s Bible

So give yourselves to God. Stand against the devil, and the devil will run away from you.

www.biblegateway.com

God promises that if you give yourself entirely to him, you will be safe from all harm and evil. What a comforting place to be!

Try this fun craft when you have a minute.  It’s a picture puzzle.  Take a picture of yourself. Make the puzzle and then put yourself back together again – showing how you can give every piece of yourself to God.  If you leave a piece of the puzzle out, it’s not complete, just like if you leave a piece of yourself out from God – you have not given yourself totally to him.

Have fun!

Available

Do you answer your phone when it rings? In my house we sometimes let it ring through to voice mail because we are unavailable. Sometimes we’re right in the middle of doing something else and can’t answer and other times we just don’t want the intrusion.

A Moment To Praise 6.21.21 in Scripture
2 Peter 1:10 NRSV – Bible Gateway

Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more eager to confirm your call and election, for if you do this, you will never stumble.

Biblegateway.com

When I read this scripture, I realize that when it comes to answering my phone at home I am usually not that eager. So how eager am I when I hear the voice of God calling me? Am I ignoring it cause I’m busy? Am I letting it go to some heavenly “voicemail” until I’m more equipped to handle it. Or am I dismissing the call outright, never to know what God was asking of me?

I encourage you to make yourself available to God’s calling in your life. You have been equipped with a certain set of gifts that God wants you to use for His kingdom. Something that you think is nothing can be very valuable to someone else in their personal walk and in turn be very fulfilling to God’s plan in their life. And yours!

Don’t ever let God’s call go to voicemail. Try to always be available for His personalized call to your heart.

Instruction Book

Thankful Thursday dawns with one beautiful morning outside here in central Pennsylvania. As I walked outside with my son to say goodbye as he headed into his day, I asked him if I should meet him later with a water bottle for his activities this evening. He looked at me and said, “Mom, I’m coming home before tonight’s activity. You don’t have to meet me.” I thanked him for the updated and shared that I mentally had not yet reviewed today’s entire plans for the family.

After sending him on his way, I got my morning coffee and spent some time in devotions and scripture. This grounding time of my day is so important as it creates not only the stepping stone for the plans ahead, but also the “how-to” guide for I the attitude I bring to each situation. No matter what we face in life, the Bible holds answers and direction for where we are right now in life.

If you feel as though you are floundering a bit, need a bit of reorienting, or just want to be grounded again, carve out a bit more time to be with Jesus. Take in His Word. Let His presence surround you, hold you, and care for you. He loves you.

I am grateful for the nurturing. This fuels me to make the changes I need and to love others as I am called. I pray you find nurturing and fuel as you spend time with Jesus today too!

Blessings to you!

A Moment To Praise For Kids 6.15.21

Joyce Lochinger

Miss Joyce

It’s officially summer!

School is out! I’m sure you are all super excited about that! I know I always was ready for summer break!

I loved staying up late and playing outside all day and sometimes, most of the night! We would play tag in the dark or sit on the porch and talk with neighbors. We would watch summer storms with their thunder and lightning and try to count between the clashes to see how far away the storm was!

But of all of the games, nothing was more fun than flashlight tag!

Here’s how to play if you have never played this game!

3 Ways to Play Flashlight Tag – wikiHow

Playing tag has always been about outrunning whoever is ‘it.’ But now, you can add a fun twist, making the game more about stealth and tact, by using flashlights to transform the game. Depending on how many people want to play flashlight…

www.wikihow.com

It’s regular tag, but in the dark and the “it” person must shine a light onto you when they tag you and say your name. That’s how you know you’re out! Anyway – I always loved being outside in the dark hiding and wondering whether I would be found? Would I see that beam of light shoot through the dark aimed at me or at a friend?

I know that is how I feel sometimes when I’m hiding something from God too! Is He going to break through with His brilliant light and find me in my hiding place? Will He find out what I’m trying to keep from Him?

A Moment To Praise For Kids 6.15.21 in Scripture

I know the answer! It is of course, yes! His light will break through and find me. But then the best part is He will heal me from my sin and He will go before me to make sure that healing will happen! See, it says so in scripture!

Isaiah 58:8 ESV – Then shall your light break forth like – Bible Gateway

Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.

www.biblegateway.com

So, enjoy your summer. Play a little flashlight tag with friends! And always looks for ways to let God lead you on good, Godly paths!
