Thankful Thursday 4-29-2021

A Refresh & Spark

Thankful Thursday hears praises lifting from my lips. Rain showers kiss the ground and provide a much needed drink for the plants. The showers also help to rinse my vehicle helping to clear the yellow coating of pollen.

After also vacuuming my vehicle last night and the rain clearing the way today, the word ‘refresh’ keeps running through my mind. A cleansing. Getting back to the basics. These actions allow my perspective to gain foundational grounding with a new spark of life.

Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins did the same for each of us. It cleared humanity’s understanding of living and made the perfect sacrifice for us to have a direct relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The gift of the Holy Spirit awaits each of us every moment if we choose to look for it. Jesus shares about the Holy Spirit in John 15:26: When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.

When we receive the foundational grounding of the Holy Spirit, Jesus gives us further instruction in the next versus on what we should do with this spark of new life. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning (John 15:27). Live a life sparked with the Spirit of truth.

Blessings to you!

Level Ground

Joyce Lochinger

Miss Joyce

Did you ever walk on a balance beam? Was it hard? Did you wobble and wiggle until you leveled yourself out? Or did you ever play that picnic game where you put your forehead on the top of a bat and then spin around the bat over and over again and then try to walk straight? You certainly didn’t feel like you were on level ground, I’m sure. Last but not least – my favorite thing to do when I was a kid. I loved to lay down at the top of a big hill and roll all the way down to the bottom. When I stood up I definitely couldn’t walk a straight line.

But that was why it was fun! It was a cool sensation to feel your insides turn upside down and to be a little dizzy for a couple of minutes.

Sometimes in life, we have a problem or issue that makes us feel like we are not on solid ground. Maybe it’s something at home or in school. It could be something with a family member who is ill. It can be anything. But one thing God promises for us is that His spirit will help us get back on level ground no matter what the circumstances are in our lives.

A Moment To Praise For Kids 4.27.21 in Scripture

Bible Gateway passage: Psalm 143:10 – International Children’s Bible

Teach me to do what you want, because you are my God. Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

www.biblegateway.com

God asks us to listen to him because He is God and He is a good teacher. And He promises that if you listen to Him, His spirit will set you on the right path, on level ground. Once you are on the right track, you will find that everything you do is for God and His way will become your way to live life!

Point of View

I bet you can take a look around wherever you are right now and find ten things that upset you or make you sad. Perhaps you’d find things that offend you. It’s human nature.

We don’t always naturally look for the positive, do we? So now that we’re talking about this, do me a favor.  Turn this around and look at the same room, or wherever you are, and find ten things that make you smile. Things that make you happy or bring you joy. Or things that you count as definite blessings. What happens when you do that? Do you instantly feel better inside? Things don’t look so gloomy; you don’t feel so negative about yourself or others. Things seem to be a little brighter.

I feel like we need to remind ourselves to do this daily.  It’s part of understanding God’s mercy to all of us.  Even more than that, it’s part of growing in spiritual maturity and in gratefulness.

A Moment To Praise 4.26.21 in Scripture

If we are to act like God, then we have to begin mimicking His behavior to others and to ourselves. This is what scripture says that God is like:

Psalm 145:9 ESV – The LORD is good to all, and his mercy – Bible Gateway

Enrich your faith and grow in spiritual maturity with the incredible Bible study and devotional books listed below. Try it for 30 days FREE. Cancel at any time.

Be good to all and to yourself as well. Train your mind to focus on the uplifting, on the positives. Always keep your thoughts in line with the scripture above. Our God is described in scripture as “Jehovah Jireh” – meaning, “The Lord will provide.” This is found in Genesis 22:14.

Remember that and look at your life from that point of view. And stay positive!

The Washer

Thankful Thursday sees freshly made beds and clean laundry making its way back into closets and drawers in our household. While handling these tasks, I could help but think about the amount of work it would have been to do this much laundry before the automatic washing machine was invented. It would have been a LOT of work!

In my Google search, I found the year 1767 as the first year a washing machine was invented, but it was only in 1937 when the first automatic washing machine came to be. Looking back, 170 years seems like a long time to evolve from a manual to an automatic washer. But I’m so grateful for each of the inventors contributing to trying and make it a little better. Each attempt helped refine the direction.

Whom did it benefit? The greater good. People around the world benefit from the automatic washer allowing them more time.

Time used to build relationships. Care for loved ones. Contribute to projects easing another area of life for the greater good.

Deuteronomy 6:10-12 offers a reminder: we have not gotten where we are on our own. The LORD provides what has been, what is now, and what is to come. And He does so through people like you and me. I’m grateful for the gift of time from those who have come before me to work towards bettering life of those around me. And if God so chooses to use me to create a blessing for those to come after me, I keep myself open to His guidance to do so.

Keep washing. Use your time well. Contribute to the greater good. And thank God for all His help!

Blessings to you!

“Bee” Happy

Joyce Lochinger

Miss Joyce

Hi Everyone!

I hope everything is going well for you this week! I also hope that you are seeing the signs of spring and summer around the corner, and that you are getting excited! It makes me happy to see the green grass, feel the sunshine, and look up and see the sun and blue skies! I can imagine that God wants us to be happy in His creation. I think He loves when we enjoy the gifts that He has given to us; the sunshine, the flowers, the bees, the warmth of the season.

I also think He wants us to be happy in the middle of struggles and problems. He has told us that when we are having a difficult time, that’s when we need Him the most. It is also then in those situations that we can grow stronger in our relationship with God.

A Moment To Praise For Kids 4.20.21 in Scripture

I want nothing more than for you to have blue skies all the days of your life. But with God, you never need to worry about that, He can make blue skies and sunshine even out of a bad situation or time in your life. Do your part and be happy in the Lord…

Psalm 37:4 – Be happy with the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

and God will give you the desires of your heart. Especially if you are following His will in your life!

Wiggling & Flopping

My brothers, sister, and I were texting the other day about one of our favorite camping places when we were younger. We shared some great memories, including campfires, boating, and fishing. When I think about fishing, I always can envision casting a line, watching the bobbin sink with a bite, and then reeling it in. I also can clearly remember the part I disliked the most, which was when a fish got caught and it was wriggling around on the hook while you tried to free it. The fish wiggles and flops around, not knowing what to do.

It brings to mind how we live our lives sometimes. We go through life without a purpose or plan. We don’t surround ourselves with Godly examples, or if we have a Godly person in our lives, we often don’t listen to them. Or we don’t find ourselves in the church and in the company of others who are growing in the Lord. We don’t read scripture or apply it in our lives.  And finally, we don’t pray and ask God for clear guidance to purpose.

Finding Peace

When this is our reality and a difficult task or decision comes along, we flop and wiggle around like the hooked fish who wants freedom. Only when we ask God for his help can we be free. When we open up conversation with Godly people who can and will pray for us, and give sound guidance. And when we pray and find ourselves in scripture before we make any decision. Only then will we not be found floundering around on the hook of life.

When God is permitted to lead your life, it is a humbling and selfless experience. There is no room for a self-centered heart when we are kneeling down before God and begging for him to answer according to His will, not our own desires or wants. When we humble ourselves and have faith & patience in our God, He will give us peace instead of, at every turn, a roadblock or conflict.

A Moment To Praise 4.19.21 in Scripture

Philippians 4:7-9 NLT – Then you will experience God’s peace, – Bible Gateway

Philippians 4:7-9 New Living Translation (NLT). 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. 8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.

www.biblegateway.com

A Moment To Praise 4.19.21 in Song

God asks us to fix our hearts on the things that are true and right and good, and let His peace wash over us in all circumstances of life. Remember to seek the advice of people who are also seeking God in their own lives. And then wait and ask God to clearly show you what He wants to reveal to you. He will then give you a peace and stillness, within which your purpose and plan will become clear. Enjoy this peaceful song called “Still”.

Thankful Thursday 4-15-2021

Masterpiece within Masterpiece

Thankful Thursday hosts an abundance of birds. As I sit and read my devotions, a variety of these winged creatures treat me to their beauty. Their songs make their way through the windows lending a soothing natural background to my time with God.

When you think about the detail and intricacies of a bird and then expand it to vast multitude of birds in our world, the capacity of our Heavenly Father becomes mind blowing! Greater still to also apply that same energy, thought, and care to the creation of each living species on the earth including us: humans! Each of us intentionally and purposefully created as stated in scripture:

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Our world is a masterpiece. Each nuanced layer and living thing within this world is also a masterpiece. As we align ourselves to God and live according to His purposeful call upon our lives, His glory shines even more brightly through our connections and interactions with one another. Enjoy the beauty of the masterpieces surrounding you in this world. And may you connect well with God to live into the masterpiece He created you to be.

Blessings to you!
