The Ten Commandments

Miss Joyce

Hey there, everyone!

I have heard about some great things that have been going on in Sunday School at Gravel Hill! Some of you are memorizing the Lord’s Prayer – good job!

I remember doing that when I was a kiddo, too. When I had finally mastered it, I felt really good about it! I hope you do, too.

I also remember the Ten Commandments, and how hard it was for me to learn and remember them. Even if you asked me now, I’m pretty sure I would not be able to name them in order. Even still, I know that they are very important laws that God gave to Moses in the Old Testament. They are good laws for all of us to live by, even today!

Here is the scripture, Exodus 20:1-17, containing the Ten Commandments that Moses received directly from God.

Now, I know most of us do not like when people tell us what to do. We often try to find ways to go around the rule or law so that we can get our own way.  Even grown-ups do it, too! But most times when we run ahead of the law and do our own thing, it gets us into more trouble than it was worth. Most times, it would have been better to just listen to the rule in the first place!

We have to remember that all laws have a purpose in our lives. Man-made ones and God-made ones alike! That purpose is to protect us and keep us safe from harm.

Try to commit to memory the Ten Commandments. Maybe you can try to remember a few at a time, if it’s easier than learning them all at once. See how they can help you through life!
