Moment To Praise For Kids 12.1.20

Fun While Waiting

Hey Kids!

I bet you’re all getting ready for Christmas! There is such excitement in that! As you get ready, I want to tell you about being a little girl in the 1970’s. I know, the first thing you’re thinking is, “Man, is Miss Joyce old!” Well, I’m ok with that! Regardless of my age, I want you to know how things were different back then, in the good old days! Who knows? Maybe your parents or grandparents might remember times like this, too! You can just ask them!

Anyway, once Thanksgiving was over, the Christmas season started. That’s a little different than nowadays, because sometimes Christmas starts right after Halloween!  But back in my childhood, after Thanksgiving, Christmas cartoons and tv shows would start. This was usually the sign that Christmastime had really started! We all looked forward to seeing The Grinch, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Frosty The Snowman, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, Christmas musical shows and so much more! Believe it or not, that time of year was the only time we got to see those shows! There were no DVRs, there was no Netflix, no YouTube, and no Hulu. We had to wait for those shows all year and they only played once!

If you were able to, you made certain that you were home for your favorite shows or movies, and you would watch commercials and all! But if you missed your favorites, you had to wait for 365 days or more until you could see it again! That’s a long time.

A Moment To Praise For Kids 12.1.20 in Scripture

You know somewhere else we are told to wait? Read this scripture.

Bible Gateway passage: Psalm 130:5 – New International Version

I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.

We are told to wait on the Lord. This time of year, right before Christmas is advent which is the time of waiting for the birth of Christ. God tells us to wait on Him and to put all of our trust and hope in His word.  This means that in our lives, there are times when we cannot understand what’s going on around us.  There will be times when we want things to happen right away. We’ll experience times when we pray and don’t see an answer. Yet, God tells us to wait on Him and that we should not lose hope. You should always know that God will is working all the time, and you will know His plan for you when the time is right.

I hope that you have a fun time waiting for Christmas this Advent season and enjoying the time you have with your family.  Watch all your favorite Christmas shows and remember that in the olden days, you wouldn’t be able to watch them whenever you wanted to like you can now. Be thankful that times have changed!
