Don’t Be A Crab!

Hi kids and parents,

Do you love the beach? There are so many fun things to do! You can swim, boogie board, skim board, snorkel, eat yummy food, or parasail. The list can go on and on! However, there is one thing that I haven’t mentioned yet. I had never done this until I went to the beach at dusk once. It was almost dark, and I discovered a whole different world at the beach.

In the daytime, the sand is hot, the sky is bright and blue, and the wind is blowing off of the ocean. The seagulls are flying around and there is a noticeable rumble of noise echoing all around you. It’s easy to hear sounds of people, music, and fun!

But at nightfall, the surroundings change. It’s quieter. The sand is damp and cool, the ocean is dark and a little scary looking, and then the weirdest little creatures pop out of the sand running out of the darkness. They are ghost crabs! Have you ever seen these guys? The are almost see-through and they bury themselves in the sand. In fact, they so dislike the light that if you shine a flashlight on them, they will run from where they are to try to get away from the light. They will even run right into the ocean to avoid have the brightness shine in on them.

I’m not sure if you’re thinking what I’m thinking, but the ghost crabs sort of sound like me when I do something wrong. I don’t want anyone to look too closely at me or for them bring my sin into the light. I try to run away. Scripture talks about this exact situation very clearly:

John 3:20 NIV – Everyone who does evil hates the light, – Bible Gateway

John 3:20 New International Version (NIV). 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.

When we sin against God, we find ourselves trying to dig our bodies into the sand and hide from God’s light, just like the ghost crabs try to hide from my flashlight! God doesn’t want us to live life like that! He wants us to step out into the light of His love and confess our sin. This way, we can be free of it and live a better life that doesn’t include hiding ourselves away from the world. God tells us that His son Jesus is the light of the world and that He will lead us to salvation. He leads us with His light, and we don’t ever have to worry about the dark again! He will give us the light of life!

Ghost Crabs and Ghost Crabbing – OuterBanks.com

Interested in the local Outer Banks nightlife? Head to the beach. One of the most popular after-dark activities on the OBX beaches is ghost crab hunting, and all a prospective OBX Hunter needs to participate is a flashlight and a love of the great outdoors.. Ghost crabs are small, almost iridescent critters that call the shorelines of the Outer Banks from the ocean wash to the high tide line …
