A Moment To Praise 3.23.20

Control is defined as: the power to influence or direct people’s behavior or the course of an event.

I want this super power, don’t you?

Control

To a degree, we all want to be in control of behaviors, whether they’re our own or those of others. Not only that, but we all may want to control the course of an event or issue in our lives. For example…the state of the world right now! Especially in this day and age.

If you have children, you may have seen some form of control exhibited by your kids at a young age. My two daughters are three years apart in age. The oldest, while very nurturing, often would take on the mother role with her younger sibling. For a while, that was ok by the younger one, even welcomed. She worshiped the ground her sister walked on. The older child would boss and the younger one would listen and then they would move on to whatever they were playing or doing as happy as could be.

But then the younger child started to form opinions and likes of her own. She would resist the mothering of her sister. And she would stand her ground with a defiant stomp and a pout! That’s where trouble would begin. The tattling, the fighting, the crying and yes, the occasional biting by the littlest. There was rebellion in the air and an inability for either to let go of what they perceived as ‘their’ control over the situation.

Perception

I’m using the word “perceived” purposefully here! Because, in reality, neither one had any power over the ensuing battle. Shawn and I kept a vigilant eye on these events.  We would always stand back, watching and intervening as necessary. We would gently nudge in a different direction…and sometimes we nudged not so gently!

This makes me see very clearly how God stands back and views me.  He has given me free will to do, say, and act as I wish and He has given you the same. He keeps a keen eye on all of us. That is reassuring and comforting! Still, we are human and there are those “control freak” moments we all have, you know the ones where we think we are the god of the situation. That’s when I feel God, my Heavenly Father, step in and refocus me. Gently sometimes. And sometimes more directly (as you all know that approach is often necessary with me)!  Yikes! Did I actually put that in print?

A Moment To Praise 3.30.20 in Scripture

Scripture tells us that we need to remember who is ultimately in control! Truly it is not me or you or the government or even this virus that we are currently dealing with.

Psalm 47:8

He reigns above the nations, sitting on his holy throne. Psalm 47:8

If I keep this scripture in my mind and I start and end my day focused on it, it’s almost a guarantee that I will have a better, more joy filled day.

Will you join me in this process? Let’s continue to draw courage and power to face another day by giving over control to the One who reigns on His heavenly throne.

P.S. – Some you know my daughters and some of you may not know them – but, I’m happy to report that as adult women, they’re self proclaimed best friends who get along and love one another very much. And the little finally quit biting people!🙂Amen!
