Shelter and Warmth

Thankful Thursday sees some single digit temperatures thankful forecasted to warm to 32 degrees today. Even as I type that my mind says, “32 degrees is the freezing mark!” And while that is true, neither the fact of today’s temperatures nor the science fact of the freezing point deter my gratitude for having shelter and warmth while surrounded by all of this cold. And I will be bundling up with many layers when the temperatures do warm a bit to get some exercise for our dog and myself. Those protective layers will help shelter me from the cold when we set on our way outside.

Pausing to imagine stepping into the outside conditions without proper layers and protection, causes me to shudder. The image immediately causes me to lift prayers of thanks and gratitude for the warm clothes, the roof over my head, the walls surrounding me, and the sources of heat I’m priviledged to enjoy. On days like today, the protection becomes extremely accentuated.

In our spiritually lives, a priviledge of protection waits for every single person: Jesus. He offers protection from eternal death. A relationship with Jesus and belief in Him is the key. Jesus is our salvation. “For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:9.) A relationship with Jesus offers a fuller, warmer life while here on earth and eternal life when our time here is through. I prayer that you find shelter and warmth today both physically and spiritually. And I encourage you to lift prayers of thanks and praise for each of them.
